A Business Lesson from the Obama Campaign (no politics, I promise)

Yesterday we all witnessed a historic election and there seems to be little doubt to the benefit that the Obama campaign gained from their online presence. Past campaigns have used the Internet mainly as a brochure to express their views and to bring in donations. The Obama campaign had a fundamentally different view.

By approaching their online presence as a way to connect with and organize supporters the Obama team adopted a strategy that most likely helped them clinch the presidency. This article from Fast Company discusses the strategies that helped propel Obama to victory. I think there are some good lessons for anyone out there with a website who is looking for better ways to connect with their visitors.

Also check out this article from Print magazine that discusses the design of Barack Obama’s website.

You're right, no politics. Just online presence common sense.

Fast Company makes a great point. Who wouldn't want some of the most effective marketing without all negative cash flow? Hop the hype train of social networking and get your info out there for FREE, from a Facebook page for your business to pics of the new office on Twitter.

Print magazine makes another good point. Branding in design and content only strengthens the brand. Just as your brand can be translated via color palette, shapes, and white space, so can it be via literary style and vocabulary.
