Everyone Deserves a Roof

I'm always interested in innovative design whether it's related to graphic design or not and this story from CNN.com caught my eye.

The charity EDAR (Everyone Deserves a Roof) has come up with a unique solution to help people living on the street. They've created a mobile shelter that can be unfolded to form a bed surrounded by a tent large enough for a single person. When in use, the unit keeps occupants off of the ground and protected from the elements. When not in use the design allows the unit to easily be folded up and moved.

Founder of EDAR, Peter Samuelson, created the shelters with the help of Pasadena Art Center College of Design through a design contest. Eric Lindeman and Jason Zasa came up with the winning design and have been working on the project pro bono ever since.

Not only do the units provide safety from the elements but they give occupants a little bit of privacy and the satisfaction of having a space to call their own. The EDAR units are provided free of charge and are currently in use in Los Angeles, CA.
