Annual Report Design That You'll Notice

Home Retail Group – Reporting outside of the box from SAS on Vimeo.

I came across this video on the Fast Company website today. It's a pretty interesting take on the idea of annual report design.

Too often annual reports can be beautiful pieces with lots of time and effort put into them but in the end not many people notice them. So what if instead of a printed book the report was a stop-motion video? That's what SAS, a UK branding firm, did for Home Retail Group. I'm guessing that quite a few more people have seen this video than would have seen a printed report.

Tennessee Flooding Video

We've all heard about the flooding in Nashville but the video below by Michael Deppisch gives us a little bit better look into the flooding. The photography and editing show a different side than the network news has shown us. To me this artfully made video makes it much more personal.

Amazing photos of the Icelandic Volcano

Volcano Image

There have been some really amazing photos of the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland. In case you've missed them, a few can be found on this site.

I find the ones with lighting particularly beautiful but all of them are pretty spectacular.

Awesome design and other visual stimuli

Lately I've been wanting to make a point of posting a little more regularly on this blog. For quite a while now I've been posting once a month or so and that's not exactly how a blog should be run. One of my problems is that I'm often unsure of what would interest visitors to this site but I think I may have a solution to that problem.

I'm on Twitter most every day for a significant portion of the day. My primary reason for being on Twitter is to keep an ear to the design community both so that I can stay up-to-date with design trends and so that I can find inspiration. Much of the inspiration I find on Twitter would probably be interesting to readers of this site so I've decided to pass some of it along.

This first post has nothing to do with graphic design but is still pretty awesome. Check out this video of an underwater explosion and just imagine being on that boat. Enjoy.
